Eighth grader Pedro Gonzalez won the METS school-wide spelling bee on Thursday, January 24.  He competed against class winners from the 6th, 7th and 8th grades.  Pedro will represent METS at the Hudson County Spelling Bee on February 23 at Secaucus High School.

Pedro competed against Melvina Fortune, Maya Josephine Kelly, Marilyn Espinosa, Victoria Castro, Marcus Tapia,  Farida Wahby, and Jocelyn Lopez in a tough contest that went four rounds.  Pedro’s winning word was pegasi, the plural of the winged horse, pegasus.
