Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the latest Spider-Man movie. However, it is not to be connected with Spider-Man: Homecoming because it’s squeal Spider-Man: Far From Home is coming this summer. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a stand alone animated movie that is directed by Peter Ramsey, Robert Persichetti Jr. and Rodney Rothman. The production companies behind the movie Marvel Entertainment, Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures Animation, Marvel Animation. Shameik Moore voices the main character, some of the other key characters are voiced by Nicholas Cage and Mahershala Ali.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse takes place in a New York City where Spider-Man has been a hero for years. However, the main protagonist is not Peter Parker. The main protagonist is Miles Morales, an Afro-Latino teenager trying to get through life in Brooklyn. One day, he gets bitten by a genetically modified spider. He then gains abilities that could rival the original Spider-Man. Miles later becomes Spider-Man’s apprentice. Spider-Man explains to Miles that he is not the only “Spider-Man” and that others have appeared too. Together, they must find out how did they get to New York and how can they help them get home.

When I watched Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, I was first exposed to the unique art style. The blend of animation and comic book style art added expression to make the action parts more intense. Every emotion that the movie tried to invoke was better expressed because of the art style. Besides the visuals, I found a nice story that had a mix of action, humor and sadness. The movie doesn’t seem to sacrifice too much of the major elements of Miles’ origin story to create its own story. To conclude, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a great movie that stands out from the shadows of the current Spider-Man movies. I would have to give it 4 of 5 stars.
