The cheerleading season has started and the METS Charter School girls are ready to try out. Thirty two girls fought to get a spot on the team with only nine open positions available. In order to earn a place, the girls had to know four cheers and 30 seconds of last years dance. Cheer captains, Hassel Abrahante and Ashley Terrero, have already started coming up with their cheers for the upcoming season.

This year, Captain Ashley Terrano, explained how they determined how to narrow down a large number of girls with great potential to the right people for the team, “While we saw a lot of great candidates, we chose the people who we felt would make the team both stronger and better for their addition.  We need coachable girls with the right attitude who are role models to the student body.”

On December 4, The Captains and Coach Casella announced who made the team:

Hassel Abrahante: Captain

Ashley Terrero:  Captain

Abigail Jackson:  New Member

Jelaine Sylvain: Returning Member

Genesis Beltre:  New Member

Courtney Maglione:  Returning Member

It was a tough choice for the Captains and their coach who had over so many talented  candidates try out for only 9 slots.  However having lost all of last year’s seniors who had made a large portion of the team, this year they were able to take in a large group of the most qualified candidates.  Coach, Cassandra Casella, admitted the formular for her team’s membership, “It takes skill, work ethic, having the right attitude, coordination, and the ability to pick up choreography quickly.”
